The channel is demarcated. Attention to the plateau in front of the bay of Ste Anne, it spreads out, little depth and cluttered with dead bodies (ship wrecks?). ( see Ste Anne). once the 2nd waypoint is reached, make a large detour of the island of Club Med. Stationary fire (feu fixe - marker light?) at the sector on the tip of the Club Med.
Then follow the fairway without deviation and without missing beacon. Possibilities of anchorage in the bays of the Southeast (watch out for mosquitos and watch your depth!)

COMMENTARY OF NAVIGATION
The access to anchoragedoesn't present any particular difficulties. Attention however to the numerous fishing racks.

OUR COMMENTS
First capital of Martinique, St. Pierre was destroyed by the eruption of the Mountain Pelee in 1903. It hasn't really recovered and still has a gloomy air.
YOUR COMMENTS
Pierre: Anchorage to the south of the piers is quite accepted. Village a lot less touristy than the south of the island, therefore friendlier; the inhabitants are very agreeable. Very good stage to make the ascension of the Mount Pelee: from the parking lot of the met station: 2 hour 1/2 of very beautiful walk ( when there is visibility). Visit the very beautiful site of the rum distillery.
Jean-Pierre: Very "pleasant anchorage. good restaurants. You can take on ice at the service station on the exit south of St. Pierre, 20 meters off the beach. For the clearance the customs-officers are not often there. "
PETITE ANSE D' ARLET
SECURITY

Draught Max: No problems
Attention: very numerous lobster pots of fishers
Waypoints NAVIGATION: 14° 28, 96 N - 061° 05, 53 W,
Anchorage: Bottom: sand - Holding: good
COMMENTARY OF NAVIGATION
Easy access, even at night because the church of the village is illuminated.
New: a special yellow marker buoy is situated close to the indicated waypoint. What purpose does it serve?
Avoid anchorage in case of surge from south east, it becomes quickly untenable.
Attention to the very numerous lobster pots and to the fishing nets. The lobster pots are sometimes barely visible: just simple mineral water bottles!
Just to the west of the municipal embankment, three small reefs, very visible.
Anchor in 5 meters to about 150 meters of the tip of the municipal embankment in the alignment of the church and the pier.
Anchor in the l'Anse Chaudiere by 4 meters of good holding sand. Further from the village, pretty wooded cliffs. Attention the North of the l'Anse Chaudiere is not straightforward.
LANDING: To the municipal embankment, West side. The east side is reserved for the shuttles for Fort de France.
SERVICES

ON LAND
The city hall plays the role of tourist office, they are very friendly.
OUR COMMENTS
Charming small town, good anchorage. This stopover is one of our favourites on Martinique. The ambiance of the village is good if a little overgrown by the mass tourism. Anchorage is unfortunately choppy (assez rouleur) and sometimes untenable. In this case, the l'Anse Chaudiere is sometimes a convenient alternative.
YOUR COMMENTS
Paul: "this anchorage is choppy and I prefer the one in the L'Anse Chaudiere or the Grande Anse d'Arlet, in the South part".
Jean: "Confirmation: a bit choppy but so friendly! Do not miss."
Anne-Cécile: "The borough is a small adorable village that knew how to preserve all its authenticity. People are adorable. Terrific restaurant in a hundred-year-old house 20 meters from the town hall. Iits name: Fatzo. One eats well there (kitchen french and Creole), the welcome is cordial, the superb decor (collection of long straw hats and an old staircase in varnished wood) and it is open late in the evening (service until 23 hs) Terrific ambiance and very good music. One of our favourite places on Martinique.
Muriel: "Good welcome and conviviality, far from the insecurity that one can feel in Fort de France... Friendly, we were invited by an untiring carnival orchestra prolong the feast with them!
GRANDE ANSE D'ARLET
SECURITY

Attention: Avoid the center of the bay, too deep for anchorage.
Waypoints NAVIGATION: 14° 29, 94 N - 061° 06, 21 W,

COMMENTARY OF NAVIGATION
Very easy access.
Attention to the fishermen's lobster pots.
The center of the bay is too deep for anchorage. Prefer the South part of the bay.
Very numerous boats at anchorage especially the weekend. Good control needed when manoevering.
Watch for south east surge in the bay...
ATTENTION: a prefectorial decree of July 1990 16 regulating anchorage: The center of the bay is forbidden for anchorage and reserved for the fishers. Moor either to the North (in front of the Ti'Sable retaurant) or to the South (to the South of the pontoon).
LANDING: On the beach or good pontoon for dinghies in the South of the bay.
SERVICES

OUR COMMENTS
Anchorage very popular with daycharters in the bay of Fort de France and by the local boats.
Beautiful beach and excellent shelter. We had a little surge however, especially to the North of anchorage.
Often too many boats for anchorage to our taste. Fisher's village that became very touristy.

Waypoints NAVIGATION: 14° 31, 79 N - 061° 05, 53 W,
Anchorage: bottom: sand - Holding: good
COMMENTARY OF NAVIGATION
The only difficulty is to identify these two bays. The access is very simple, no particular danger.
Wind changes oddly in the Anse Noir, giving uncertain clearance.
Anchorage takes place on a bottom of 3 to 4 meters of black sand of good holding.
A long pontoon for day-charters has been constructed in the Anse Noir. Anchorage is forbidden.
These two bays are often a little billowy and sometimes make a laborious anchorage for the night.

ANSE MITAN
SECURITY
Access: VERY EASY
Shelter: GOOD
Entry at night: YES - anchorage for the night: YES
Draught Max: No problem
Attention: The "caye aux coillons!" (coillons = idiots?)
Waypoints NAVIGATION: 14° 33, 49 N - 061° 03, 60 W,
Anchorage: Bottom: sand - Holding: good - avoid the massive coraliens (coral reefs?)
COMMENTARY OF NAVIGATION
Easy access, even at night. The lights of the coast permit an easy approach.
The only danger is the "caye of the Anse Mitan" under the name of "caye the idiots'", as its name indicates it is demarcated by a buoy "isolated danger" (black and red).
Anchorage is very busy (several score of boats). Verify your clearance from other boats.
A zone reserved for nautical activities (ski, jet ski) is demarcated by yellow buoys. Be careful to not to moor in this zone.
Anchorage takes place by 3 to 5 meters of good holding sand. Attention not to moor/anchor on the massive coraliens.
Alternative anchorage: less sheltered but calmer to the North of the bay, just to the west of the Pointe du Bout on a bottom of 3 meters of sand and coral of good holding.
The PONTOON OF BAKOUA, a luxurious marina, is currently being rebuilt. It provides water, electricity and fuel. It offers the space for boats of large size. Electricity. The apontage is a little billowy.
LANDING: On the beach or in marina at the Pointe du Bout.

OUR COMMENT
This stopover permits a visit to Fort de France thanks to the regular shuttle. Anchorage there is pleasant although very busy.
YOUR COMMENT
Vincent: July 2001 "... The Beaconing for jets etc. doesn't exist anymore (what returns anchorage more pleasant bcp???). One can moor/anchor where one wants (even the strip of the 300 m has not materialized) except close to the pontoon of the shuttle (as everywhere in Mtq) For the rest the Anse Mitan it is an excellent anchorage with inhabited boats bcp which makes it very lively. One speaks of qqs rapines....(Thefts???) personally I "didn't lose" anything. In event of cyclonic surge it is uncomfortable and in case of alert it is necessary to flee toward the anchorage at the 3 ilets: Golf and Borough or frankly to the bottom of the Bay of FdF (Port CohŽ or Club Neptune respectively close to the airport and the Refinery) "
Muriel: "Plunge in "full France" where the ambiance between "subways and martiniquais" is of the most warm. In the village "cardboard pate", was all we could find ... except for one supermarket... The one at the Pointe du Bout is closed since the month of November 2000, it is supposed to reopen "shortly". Good plan: to get provisions in Fort de France... At the Anse Mitan, the pontoon of the Bakoua is back (???). One finds gas there (butane), fuel-oil and water, two showers as well as an open air restaurant grill which is very friendly.
LE VAUCLIN
SECURITY
Access: DIFFICULT
Shelter: GOOD - Other shelter: Le Marin, dist,: 20 M.
Entry at night: NO - anchorage for the night: YES
Draught Max: of 1 to 2 meters
Attention: anchorage flat racer. Difficult access.
Waypoints NAVIGATION: Access by the North: 14° 30, 84 N - Access by the South (pass of the Vauclin): 14° 30, 84 N - 061° 47, 95 W,
Anchorage: Bottom: of 1,3 to 1,9 meters - Holding: average
COMMENTARY OF NAVIGATION
Access from the North:
To the indicated waypoint, to take a cape at 230° true during 2,3 M. Watch its drift. The green buoy, that one passes to port, is not lighted. To avoid when the surge surges on the high bottom, on starboard.
The light to sector of the port of the Vauclin is judicious to give an axis of access in its white sector...
Access by the South: (the pass of the Vauclin):
Tip of the Vauclin in the 330 true.
To the waypoint, mark the red beacon, the Pariadis cayes surges. Attention to the passage of the 2nd red buoy. ( see detail).
Then, it is best to let the Caye Sautée to starboard (to see detail). It is only so one can take a cape to 270° true toward the green buoy and then to turn off toward the Southwest to enter in the roadstead. (to see detail).
Anchorage takes place by 2 meters owing to the small port of the Vauclin. Frequent surge and bottom of average holding mud.
The access to the port is reserved to the draught in 1,5 meters. In the port, water is troubled and the bottom is of silt and sand.
LANDING: at the port.

COMMENTARY OF NAVIGATION
Recognize with certainty the Burgaux îlet and the îlet Perce before committing. Then to take a cape at 290° true toward the small îlet (very flat) just to the North of the Pointe Baham.
Anchorage can take place:
1. to the Northeast of this îlet by 2,2 m of water on bottom of middle holding sand.
2. just before the tip South closing the Baie des Anglais. Attention to follow the journey proposed above on the card to join this anchorage. 2 meters, bottom of sand.
3. in the Baie des Anglais itself, the more one penetrates, the more the bottom goes back up. On the left and on the right of the entry (prefer the one of right, to the North), one can anchor on a bottom of mud of 1,8 meters.

Attention to the access to these anchorages. The arrival at night can pose some problems because of the numerous obstructions (body-dead, nets,...). Stay up to arrive on the Waypoint of the west while overflowing extensively the coast until it. Then, you have the choice between the anchorageof the North (before the Club Med.) - Attention to the yellow beacons that indicate the zone reserved to the users of the Club, or in front of the village of Ste Anne. Anchor by 3/4 meters of water on bottom of good holding sand.

OUR COMMENT
Fort de France is a big city (120.000 inhabitants about) with its advantages and inconveniences. Many boats at anchorage some remain several months, or even more... The L'Abri Cotier, a famous bar on the embankment, is now closed...
This anchorage is convenient but not however very pleasant.
